President Joe Biden called on Americans inoculated with Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to take a third booster shot for added protection. This is the latest initiative introduced by the administration to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the country.

Booster Shot Recommended To Fight COVID-19 Delta Variant
Health experts recommend getting a booster shot to get more protection from the highly contagious Delta variant currently sweeping in areas across the US. In addition, the latest research showed that the initial immunity offered by COVID-19 vaccines loses its strength over time.

Biden endorsed the booster shots, saying “It’s the best way to protect ourselves from new variants that could arise.”
Soon, 155 million Americans who completed their vaccination using messenger-RNA vaccines such as Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna can get a third booster shot. Americans 18 years old and older should get the booster shot eight months after the second dose. The government announced it will have boosters available beginning September 20.
Booster Shots Help You Stay Ahead of the Virus
Meanwhile, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said the booster shots can help the United States stay ahead of coronavirus. The current two-dose regimen is effective by itself, but emerging evidence shows that vaccines lose their effectiveness over time. In addition, the highly infectious nature of the Delta variant warrants a booster shot.
“Having reviewed the most current data, it is now our clinical judgment that the time to lay out a plan for Covid-19 boosters is now,” Dr. Murthy said. Currently, boosters are available from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Americans 12 years old and above can get the Pfizer-BioNTech booster. However, Moderna boosters remain limited to those 18 years old and above.
Expanded Vaccine Plan
Under an expanded plan, the US government will start offering the booster shots after both Pfizer and Modern receive Food and Drug Administration authorization.
Once cleared by the FDA, the government will prioritize elderly Americans 65 and older in chronic care facilities. Next, health workers and early vaccine recipients will follow.
The third dose will not contain any new ingredients. It comprises the same exact formulation from the earlier vaccines approved for emergency use. Like its previous doses, the third dose is free to all recipients.
In fact, the US currently has more than enough supplies to provide its citizens. As a result, Americans can get their third dose at any of the 80,000 pharmacies and other vaccination sites authorized by the US government.
Biden Also Wants To Counter Anti Mask Efforts In Schools
In addition, Biden signed a memorandum directing the Department of Education to exhaust all measures to ensure the safety of schoolchildren returning to their classrooms. This is the White House’s attempt to counter some states that prohibit mask requirements in schools.

According to reports, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona will use the department’s civil rights enforcement authority to prevent states from blocking mask requirements in schools.
“We need to make sure children are wearing masks in school,” Biden declared. He added that state politicians who oppose mask mandates are “setting a dangerous tone.”
