It takes 21 days of repeating the same action for it to officially become a habit. That sounds easy enough, right? It’s only 3 weeks, but if you skip even one day, you have to completely start over. It’s a slippery slope, my friends. With these tips and a little focus, you can create a healthy habit.

“I’m on a road trip,” you say. “I can handle just one bag of mini donuts.” A few days of a road trip and 5 McDonald’s runs later, the good habits are down the drain. Time to start the clock again. Day 1 begins tomorrow or the next day.

Simple Ways To Develop A Healthy Habit

1. Set Small Goals

If you find you hit too many set-backs, start smaller. Try to cut out one unhealthy habit at a time. Instead of all junk food, avoid sweets or fast food first. Make a plan that includes small reasonable reasonable goals and specific actions to move toward those goals.

Plan ahead for obstacles. Stay on track. You can create healthier habits with perseverance.

2. Stay on Track

Keeping a record can help. You can use a journal, computer program, or mobile app to track things like diet, exercise, stress levels, savings accounts, or any habit you are trying to develop.

A study of people who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept the weight off for at least a year, found that they often tracked their progress closely. The record will help you stay accountable and get to the finish line faster.

3. Envision Your Future

Whether it is more savings, to be debt-free, to be more physically fit, or to have a cleaner house, think about what this is going to look and feel like. Imagine your life as it will be with this as a habit.

Imagine this activity as a regular part of your life. Think of the outcome you can achieve with just 21 days of small change.

4. Dig Deep

YOUR EXISTING AD GOES HERE

If you are really struggling, take a look inward. If the road trip is over and you buy another bag of donuts, this isn’t about staying awake in the car. There is something more going on.

Dig deeper. You might be sabotaging yourself in your quest toward developing healthy habits. If you are trying to save money, but you continue popping online to order things you don’t actually need, you need to reevaluate. Commit to a smaller goal and try again.

5. Know the Importance of Maintaining a Healthy Habit

Good habits are important for growth. They help us set an example for the next generations observing our habits. They hear what we say, but they are watching what we do. Set a reachable goal you would like to make a habit.

Maybe you want to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Start by making meal plans. Research shows that people who make their beds have several other successful habits as well.

How about saving your change or starting an online rainy-day account? Of course, exercise and healthy eating are wonderful habits to establish. Whatever you decide, remember, it’s only 21 days. You can do it!
