About 14% of people ages 70 and older were revealed to have some form of dementia. For those below that line, knowing the early signs of dementia is important to know to try and find ways to treat it before it leads to Alzheimer's disease.

Here are eight early signs of dementia that you need to keep in mind.

1. Memory Loss

Probably the most common sign is memory loss. Dementia relates to how a person thinks and uses his/her brain since it affects memory, the way people think, and how people make decisions.

Having memory loss at an early age can be an early sign of this condition. Although, it can also happen to people who are under stress, constantly experiencing this can raise a red flag.

2. Poor Organizational Skills

One dementia symptom is having poor organizational and planning. This condition affects how people use their brains and using them in such situations can be an early sign of dementia.

3. Finding It Difficult To Concentrate

Almost similar to planning and organizing, concentrating will be impaired when a person is on the road to dementia.

However, these symptoms belong to the mild cognitive impairment (MCI) group and are considered not severe enough to be diagnosed with dementia.

4. Personality Changes

Mood and personality changes are early signs but are considered to be not serious symptoms relating to dementia.

Although, extreme mood and personality changes can relate to serious mental conditions.

5. Constipation

Of course, it doesn't necessarily mean that when you're constipated you're more likely to have dementia.

But it is related because the gut acts similarly to the brain. Some cognitive problems can stem from your gut because it has a lot of nerve fibers.

6. Losing The Words To Say

When you're constantly trying to find words during conversations then that could be an early sign of dementia. The hippocampus, which is responsible for memory and learning, is affected which leads people to mix up words or have difficulty in communicating.

7. Senses Becoming Poor

People having dysfunction in all senses can be an early sign of dementia. Appetite can be lessened, hearing, eyesight, as well as smelling, can be affected because of a cognitive decline.

Although there are other serious conditions that can be linked to this, seeking professional help once this happens is important.

8. Confusion With Navigation

The last symptom that you should look out for to see if you are developing signs of dementia is the inability to navigate well in new places.

It can also be linked to being confused about the time and place you're in, especially when you are in an unfamiliar place.

Some of these early signs of dementia may occur in normal people. It may not necessarily mean they are showing signs but can be coming from other circumstances such as stress or lack of sleep.
